ABOUT

ABOUT ME

Nearing the fifty-fifth anniversary of my first airplane ride at age eight, on a Braniff Airways Convair 340 from Wichita Falls to Dallas Love Field on August 8, 1964, I want to share some of my memories from my wonderful years in aviation with you, and some of my interests going forward.

To understand me, all you really need to know is that my idea of Heaven is riding in a cockpit on a clear night. If you're in aviation yourself, that will be self-explanatory!

YouTube is full of aviation and space videos, some historical, some right up to the minute. I'm building a curated list of my favorite videos which I will post for you here.

And as you might imagine, an old codger like me has plenty of opinions on just about everything aviation, which I will be sharing in my blog. Your suggestions for what I might include here are most welcome. Enjoy!

HIGHLIGHTS

Here are just a few of my favorite memories from a life in aviation.

LANDING THE SHUTTLE

Once while on business at the Johnson Space Center, a Shuttle instructor took me and my co-worker for a "ride" in the actual astronaut training sim. Although I am not a pilot, I landed it successfully on my second try!

JUMPSEATING

At various points in my career, I had the privilege of riding in cockpit jumpseats on both scheduled and bizjet flights to perform observations of CRM behaviors. They actually paid me to do this stuff!

FLYING TO WORK

When I worked for United Express at Denver Stapleton, I flew back and forth to work from my home in Colorado Springs every day. A great way to start and end my workday!
